March 2023
Dear Members of EURCOLD, dear colleagues and friends,
It is a great honor for me to have been elected President of the European Club of ICOLD and to have been entrusted with the challenge of continuing the successful tenure of President Fry. The European is a very active Regional Club and I am thrilled to be collaborating with all of you in implementing the common goals set for the 2023-2025 term and shall do my utmost in achieving this. I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight some essential priorities and their implementation strategies as follows:
May 2023
Dear Members of the EURCOLD Board, dear colleagues
I hope this letter finds you all well.
The 23rd ICOLD Annual Meeting is approaching and we will have the opportunity to meet for the Board Meeting on the 11th of June. This will be our first in person meeting in 2023 and we can share our views and targets as the role of dams is continually becoming more crucial, considering their important role for the energy transition and the impacts imposed by drought and the recent severe flash floods in several southern European countries.
1 May 2022
Dear President,
Our next board meeting
After two years of fighting the Covid19 virus, we will finally be able to meet together face to face in Marseille at the board meeting on Saturday May 28th at 16:30.
The ETIP HYDROPOWER (2022-2025) will be leaded by EurCOLD
During this meeting, we will celebrate a very important event: EURCOLD will lead the implementation of the European Technology Innovation Platform (ETIP) HYDROPOWER and then of the permanent association of hydropower and dams from 2022 to 2025. Indeed, the HYDROPOWER EUROPE consortium has won the HORIZON-CL5-2021-D3-02-15 call for tenders.
31 December 2020
We have just lived through a difficult year with a pandemic that is still killing more than 10,000 people a day in the world and particularly in Europe and has partially paralyzed our economy.
EURCOLD wishes 2021 to be a year of solidarity and development to put an end to this
Covid19 crisis and minimize the following.
As far as dams in Europe are concerned, we are facing three major challenges:
31 January 2020
The main issue was the 11th EURCOLD Symposium that was held in Chania (Crete), in October 2019. This is the most important venue of EURCOLD. It has more than 200 attendees from 29 countries. The main theme was “The future of dams in Europe: Prospects and challenges in a changing environment”. It was developed in 4 sessions during 2 days, with 51 peer-reviewed presentations and 12 introductory presentations and keynote lectures. Please find enclosed detailed report by Dr. George Dounias.
7 August 2020
Dear members of EURCOLD, dear colleagues,
Our first through in this challenging time is for those who have suffered the Covid-19. We
wish that you and your families are well.
Dams have been shown as a key infrastructure, and activities regarding dams, especially water supply, irrigation and hydropower production have been appointed in most countries as essential services. This should encourage us to continue with our activities to strengthen society resilience to the climate change.
